I am an associate professor of philosophy at the Unviersity of Memphis. I research primarily in Moral Theory and the History of Ethics (especially Enlightenment thought and the work of David Hume and Adam Smith).
In both areas my work focuses on sentimentalist ethics, moral psychology (esp. emotion and empathy), and human worth. I'm also keenly interested in practical questions related to law, justice, liberty, oppression and human rights. Lately I've been working on the connections between human dignity, respect, and interpersonal understanding.
